Creating A Calibration
Before creating a new calibration make sure you have the following equipment and information:
- Ncam equipment rigged and connected to the camera
- Chosen lens encoding option connected and selected in Ncam Reality Preferences
- Calibration chart, "70mm mosaic" is preferred
- Sensor size information for your camera
All calibration is conducted using the Full UI
To create a new calibration press the "Create Calibration" button in the Calibration panel. This will display the calibration window shown below
Some fields may be automatically populated from previously entered information, this can be changed if it is no longer relevant

Begin by defining the Name and Brand of the camera you are using, be sure to give it a unique ID so that you are able to identify it later
Enter sensor size information by pressing the "Create Sensor" button. This will bring up the Sensor size window. For information on how to use this then please see the linked page
If an existing calibration for that camera already exists, then it can be selected from the "Use Template" dropdown. This will utilise the camera information from that calibration and mean that manually entering information and using the sensor size window is not required
If using a template, make sure it uses the same sensor size as the mode you're now in
Define a name, brand and unique ID/name for your lens.
Use the "Focus" "Zoom" and "Iris" sections to enter information about the lens
If an existing calibration for that lens already exists, then it can be selected from the "Use Template" dropdown. This will utilise the lens information from that calibration and mean that manually entering information is not required.
Unless your lens has been set to be completely "Static" in the previous section, then lens mapping will be required.
This is a process that correlates the information from the lens encoders with the physical values from the markings on the lens barrels
Press the "Map Lens" button to enter the encoder mapping window
For detailed information on how to map the lens please see the attached link
Finally, press the "Create Golden Point" button.
This will take you to the lens calibration screen where the FOV and distortion of the lens will be calculated using a calibration chart
For information on how to use the lens calibration window please see the attached link
To be able to save a calibration the golden point must be completed as a minimum. Be aware that in most circumstances more calibration is required
After creating a golden point, it is recommended to test the quality of the lens calibration for this part of the lens.
Continue by conducting the Camera Bar to Main calibration and placing the zero point within your environment. This will allow you to return to the lens calibration window and continue with the remaining calibration of the lens
This can be done by choosing the Edit Calibration option from the calibration panel
