Adjusting Delay

5min

What is it

The Delay value relates to the offset in time between the Ncam tracking packets and the relevant frame of video that they correspond to

If an incorrect delay value is present, this will manifest as either the CG graphics moving before or after the camera moves

The delay value is displayed inside the "System Status" tab and is called "Cam Bar to Main Delay"

It is only available inside the Full UI

There are several factors that impact the amount of delay required to get a properly synced CG output, these include:

  • Framerate of the main camera
  • Brand of the camera
  • Routing of the video signal

How to Adjust

Because there are a number of variables, delay must be worked out on a case by case basis. The easiest way to ascertain the correct value is to position a CG graphic in front of the camera, and make repeated short sharp pan's while adjusting the delay value until a satisfactory result is achieved

Disable the "Tracking Filter" temporarily while adjusting delay. After the delay is set, turn it back on and adjust the filter values to suit your delay setting

Minimum Delay

Ncam Reality requires a certain amount of delay to work properly, the GUI will display a warning if it considers the current delay as being too low. If it is not possible to align the camera and CG due to this warning then it will be necessary to delay the video signal going into the renderer
