Creating An Alignment

What are alignments

Alignments are a way of orientating the camera tracking data generated by Ncam into something that is relative to the environment the camera is in. This is done by setting the zero point of the camera tracking to a specific point

Why should I use them

In nearly all applications of camera tracking it is necessary to position CG elements in specific locations in 3D space. Without using alignments, positioning of CG elements becomes very arbitary and repositioning is required every time the tracking is initialised.

The use of alignments streamlines this by providing a consistent and repeatable frame of reference

Locking the pointcloud

Once an alignment is created, a user is able to choose whether it should be "Locked". This essentially tells Ncam Reality to stop learning any new tracking points.

Locked pointclouds should primarily be used with circular marker tracking mode. They can work with Natural tracking but it's important to make sure that the tracking environment is stable in terms of lighting and physical changes

Before locking a pointcloud, you need to ensure that you have mapped enough of the area the camera is operating in. If you move the camera into an area of your studio that was not included in the alignment, then the tracking is likely to fail.

The option to lock a pointcloud is only available from the WebUI

Further details on locking a pointcloud can be found in the Saving/Loading a pointcloud section
